Here’s a rather offbeat addition to this blog.  Game Makers Rob and Julia are busy planning the next liver-killing party of the “Stay Classy San Francisco” hi-lo bar crawl series.  Goal: be ridiculously, expensively good-looking in your black tie best whilst sashaying through the less reputable dives of our beloved city.

Cheers everybody!!

Feather to Fire in the Presidio

One of the blessings of having creative friends is the opportunity to collaborate on projects that produce results far superior to what I can hatch on my own.  Such is the case with my talented friend Aileen, who hand makes elaborate headdresses under her label Feather to Fire for sartorial free spirits.  We braved some seriously chilly San Francisco weather in the Presidio to get these shots.

Aileen first started crafting these luxurious pieces after seeing them at Burning Man (and of course, she improved on the originals in my humble opinion).  Yes, Burning Man 2013 is over, but it’s never too early to plan for next year or to build up a warrior princess wardrobe for music festivals.

Check out Aileen’s Feather to Fire shop on Etsy to get your own custom headpiece!

Melody + Jon engagement at UC Berkeley

This post is long overdue.  Last summer, Melody and Jon invited me to spend a day at UC Berkeley, where they first met as dewy-eyed freshmen working on the school paper years ago.

Congratulations to the happy couple on their engagement!!  (Lol – I’m posting this now, when the wedding already happened last fall!)

The Vintage Apartment

For today, I present another shoot from my archives – my first experiment with photographing indoors.  All lighting here is natural.

My lovely girl Trisha moved into an exquisite vintage apartment recently and outfitted the whole place with shabby chic furniture that she found on Craigslist.  The place is about the size of the shoebox, but it’s certainly the shoebox with the most character that I’ve ever seen.  I got so carried away photographing the interior, that I forgot to shoot the moody hallways and urban exterior!!  I guess that means that I’m due for another trip to Pasadena to finish what I started…

This past weekend I spent a clear and breezy afternoon in Malibu with my b-school friend Carlo and his gorgeous wife Joanna.  This is my first attempt at a maternity photoshoot, and I got to work with an Elle Macpherson lookalike – how lucky am I?!  It was truly an honor to get to celebrate this milestone with Carlo and Joanna through photography…

Here is a photoshoot from a few weeks back, with my friend Valerie.  I had the privilege of singing with Valerie in an a cappella group while we were in graduate school together.  Valerie is a talented musician with a rich, emotional voice; you can check out a video of her singing here.  I photographed her in Woodland Hills, overlooking Topanga Canyon at sunset.  She has a fantastic wardrobe for photography, wouldn’t you agree?

Erin in Redondo Beach

I managed to squeeze in two shoots this weekend, and my graduate school roommate Erin was gracious enough to lend her gorgeousness for photography.  I was hoping for some sun on the beach but woke up to another foggy Southern California winter’s day.  Alternate solution: Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach for some nature photography!  Sadly, the park turned out to be the size of a glorified back yard and was overrun with screaming children, but we managed to find a few corners here and there to simulate some “nature”.

Santa Monica with Carmen and Elena

Finally, we’re moving into recent shoots!  I will still post older shoots from time to time, but I am so pleased with this photoshoot from the weekend that I really couldn’t wait to share it.  Originally I had wanted to capture my lovely friends Carmen and Elena on the Santa Monica Pier, but “winter” decided to come this weekend.  There was so much fog that we literally couldn’t see the beach from across the street!  I thought the chances for good photography would be nil, but with beautiful subjects something decent was bound to result.  I hope you agree…

As always, please contact me if you’re in the mood for some creativity!!  Any makeup artists and stylists that want to collaborate, I’m waiting… ^_^

Lily
